THAT RIVIERA TOUCH

'Modern', 'chic' and, well, 'Cannes!, are the words Jason Maclean chooses to define the look and feel he was aiming to achieve in this project in the French Riviera town, famous for its film festival and luxury lifestyles.

The House at.. Cannes, as the project is known, is a luxury retreat cum-playground aimed at creative types who descend on Cannes for its various festivals. It is a multifunctional space that Maclean Bespoke Interiors has designed with a view to it being used as a venue for conferences, after-show parties and photo shoots.

The property is the second of Maclean's boutique retreat projects. The first, completed in 2005, is The House at.. Hautefage, a 200-year-old, five-bedroom farmhouse with a cookery school that offers relaxing and gastronomic breaks in the south west of France. In contrast to the rustic chic of the first property, The House at.. Cannes is 'something more spectacular' with an interior referencing the Belle Epoque style with which the riviera resort is associated.

'It was to be simple and extremely pared back to ensure it was all about the choice of furniture, wall coverings and materials; each piece is there for a reason.' The project certainly has a pared-down look and it is clear that all the design choices have been considered with an almost gallery-like precision.

Maclean's uncluttered and considered approach to interior design gives each and every one of these features enough room to breathe and display their individual beauty. The House at.. Cannes' carefully placed design pieces and zingy punches of colour give it a cool edge while the overall muted tone imbues a sence of calm.
